Built a platform mapping the global structure of the world's 500 largest multinational enterprises from open big data, matching over 130,000 subsidiaries and 120,000 websites to give national statistical offices and researchers a live benchmark of MNE activity.

Estimating UK Intra-Firm Trade

Combined large language models with firm-level microdata to produce the UK's first experimental estimates of intra-firm trade, finding that 58% of UK goods exports to the US in 2024 were intra-firm.

About Birch Analytics

Birch Analytics is a UK-based research company which combines rigorous economic method with the latest data science to help policy-makers and researchers answer the questions that matter. We work at the intersection of economics, statistics and computer science, building platforms and producing research for organisations including the OECD and the UK Government.

Birch Analytics was founded by Graham Pilgrim, who spent over a decade at the OECD working on data science projects before starting the company. We are based in Taunton, Somerset, and often working from the newly opened Firepool Centre for Digital Innovation, a hub built to support digital and data-driven businesses in the heart of the town.
